I realize I need to write more if I ever want to make this blog anything other than my “other” journal. And having learned that another blog I follow has an ad that is worth $20,000…maybe I should be paying attention to this more. But here’s the thing…I don’t have a niche – I don’t have one thing I’m passionate about so that I can write every day, 365 days a year about one subject. And therein lies the rub. Plus, I do this blog thing for me, and no one else. So maybe these once-a-month blog posts about nothingness are worth something…maybe just not $20,000.
Life has been busy lately, so I find solace in constantly taking pictures of my surroundings. So when words fail (or I’m too exhausted to be witty and charming), pictures personify. So here’s a collection of photos that made me smile this week.
There was a gal in front of me on a motorcycle that made me smile. Just because she was a chick on a motorcycle on one of the most gorgeous days of the summer. For some strange reason, instead of cursing every driver that was trying to turn left onto the Kennedy (the parking lot that was the left-hand turn lane took me a good solid 10 minutes to get on), which is something I do daily, I smiled.
This guy. I realize me being a creeper on the train is probably not the wisest thing, but this morning saw me running late for everything (per usual) and barely making it on the train. Once I got everything settled, I looked up to see this gentleman, in his Cuban straw hat and mustard colored sunglasses, and he just made me smile. I don’t know what made me smile more…the fact that he was just a cool, non-pretentious stylin’ gentleman or the fact that he reached out to aide a lady that almost lost her footing. This guy just reminded me that A) stylin’ gentleman still do exist, and B) chivalry is still out there.
Farmer’s Markets. I love them, especially on a hot summer’s morning when I have nothing but time. The bounty and love that goes into these things…there’s something about having the farmer pick out the best cucumbers for you (and actually taking the time to explain why they’re the best), and talking directly to the growers that makes it all worth while. Plus, the fruit vendor wasn’t too bad on the eyes either. $15 of fresh flowers that will make me smile for the rest of the week? Sold. Walking around these always makes me yearn for the day when I ditch the city for a 40 acre plot of land where I can farm my own stuff and sell them off…but until then, walking around a farmers market for an hour will continue to make me smile.

Life Observations is the category where I vow to write something, post something, say something about anything I’ve observed at least once a month….if only to entertain myself and make everyone realize that if we don’t stop and look around every once in a while, we might miss something…
