People who know me know I love hard. I fall hard. I love being in love. I love saying I love you, I like you, I adore you. I am just that person who will always say I love you first, offer a hug first, go in for the kiss first…that’s just who I am. I am an affectionate person, and I don’t need Valentine’s Day to prove it. But I, like most of society, feel some sort of pressure with Feb. 14th to prove to myself that I am loved. Perhaps it is because I’ve never had a good one. Perhaps it is because I’ve watched Serendipity and You’ve Got Mail one too many times. Whatever that case, it’s just nice to feel loved every once in a while.

So many people put pressure on Valentine’s Day. Coming from someone who’s never enjoyed a nice dinner, a romantic gesture, etc et.al, I get it. You want to feel loved, even if it is a stupid Hallmark holiday. You want to feel like you are the center of someone’s universe, that, if only for a moment, you are loved.

But here’s the stupid crock of shit: you are probably loved 364 days out of the year, but if you don’t get anything on Valentine’s Day, you think you are the ogre of the world. You think you are unloved. You think you will end up lonely for the rest of your life. Don’t deny it…there are times when all you want is a hug, a box of chocolate, a single rose, and unfortunately, society has deemed Feb 14th as the official day of “you better proclaim your love for me or else” day.

I really don’t have much else to say but this: if you’re currently in love, congrats. If you’re not, don’t give up hope. If you’re on the fence, take the plunge, you only live once. Just say I love you already. And if you want to breakup, for God-sake, wait a day, will ya? ♥
