(even Goethe looked a little skeptical…)
A quick quote from a book I read daily (or try to read daily, since we all know my “daily” habits are sporadic at best..):
From “The Book of Awakening” by Mark Nepo
April 27th
Daily quote: “Just trust yourself, then you will know how to live.” –Goethe
…”To be willing to envision what we need is powerful and real, and just as crucial is the confidence of spirit to know that it will work, even though we haven’t found where we belong or whom to love yet. Equally as vital is the perseverance in trying to find precisely what will work…”
In this increasingly cynical and negative world we live in, quotes like these make me smile. So I haven’t had a “relationship” in a while…perhaps it has just been time well spent figuring out myself and what will and will not work for me. So I haven’t really had any “ambition” beyond just having (and keeping) a job…perhaps that is life telling me to just go with the flow for once, instead of trying to constantly look into the future when the present is right here. And perhaps there was a reason that I read this quote today, when I haven’t read this daily book for the last two weeks. I am a strong believer in signs, and I believe that this might just be one of those times where you read something, watch something, and think, “hmm…that is interesting, since I am going through all of those thoughts and feelings right now…hmm…that is interesting that life has a funny way of showing you that your over-analytical, controlling self can still be surprised and overwhelmed by a single thought, a single quote, a line.
But most interesting (to me, anyhow) is how overly-contemplative I get when it’s rainy and gloomy out. Here’s hoping for sunshine tomorrow!
