We all make resolutions, and either never quite remember them (because we never fulfilled them), or “just dont’ have the time to make stupid resolutions…I’m way too busy for that” (aren’t we all…)
So, I thought I’d write down some public declarations (not resolutions, you see) to motivate me in the new year. Then, when I do my recap at the end of the year, we can see just how many “declarations” I’ve achieved.
So in my final year as a twentysomething (enter *gasps* and yelps here), here are my declarations for 2010:
1) Teach the dog new tricks.
Ollie knows how to sit and lie down. But he doesn’t know how to come, stay or stop jumping on people. I resolve to end this, either by my own training or paying someone to do that. I would like to be able to walk him without a leash, or at least know that if he is ever off the leash, he won’t go running into the middle of the street. I’d also like to take him inside a building without fear that he’ll mark his territory upon entering. But first things first…I will teach him to shake my hand. (But no, I will still not cut his nails!)
2) Volunteer.
This is literally on my list every year, and still, I have not done it. I love helping people. I am a people-pleaser by nature, so I have no idea why I haven’t done this yet. But I “declare” that I will volunteer. Even if it’s for another pledge drive. I’d like to help out at an animal shelter. We’ll see. I’m a little weary of this one, because I’ve always said it, never done it.
3) Eat more fish.
Not “lose more weight” (which I am sure we could all stand to lose a little…) or “go on a diet”. These never work for me. So I vow to just eat more fish. And not fried fish either. Like, actual fish. I like fish, but I don’t LOVE it. I hope I start to love it this year.
4) Spend money on quality.
The girls out there know what I am talking about. I have spent way too much money on needless things like “coral” lipstick that I used probably once. I am starting to see that it truly is quality versus quantity. I vow to only buy things when needed, and splurge on things like foundation and perfume, and skimp on the latest lipstick trend or shoe color. I vow to stop eating crap (see McD, Taco Bell) and spend some hard-earned cash on things like cut fruit from Whole Foods and dinners at places like Boka and Alinea instead of Chilis and Outback.
5) Read the entire Harry Potter series.
Yes, I have yet to read one of these books. Which is strange, because anyone who knows me knows I like to “waste” time on two things: TV and books. So, once I get the hardcover editions, I vow to read them by year’s end. It’s about time, dont’ya think? I’d also like to finish the Twilight Series. I’m on the last book, but I haven’t started yet. At least I have that book in my library…
I have many others, like get more exercise, join a pilates class, and learn how to cook…but these will do for now. These to me are entirely obtainable, and not totally unreasonable. Here’s to 2010.
