Another fall season begins…I love the fall. everything about it. crisp apples. leaves. sweater weather. and now with my newest addition to my family, the walks around the block with the wind blowing in my hair and seeing the leaves change colors in my neighborhood is fabulous.Fall also brings another favorite thing of mine: TV Fall Season Premieres. So long are the tears we cried over Danny losing to Sabra on So You Think You Can Dance…so long to wondering who PJ took to Italy with her…these are but a glimmer in my eye compared to the fall lineup that awaits me this week.
So I am starting a Fall Season Premiere round-up page for all to see me hash it out about everything fall tv. We will talk about if Addison can live up to the hype. If Bionic Woman was a stupid idea, or if CW’s toted Reaper makes the…um…cut? I will talk about my wins, loses, and obsessions as the TV fall season premieres this week. Take a look, take a gander, I am just one consumer of TV, but I like my voice to be heard…even if it doesnt have anything nice to say! I am no longer in LA, the land of the kiss-up! I am in Chicago, where the Cubs are in first place, Grossman still hasnt been benched, and where we like to say it as it is.
And so we begin:
AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL
First up, America’s Next Top Model (ANTM), premiered Wednesday, Sept. 19th on CW.
Judge if you want, but I love this show. Tyra seems like the type of person who has been chewed and spit out on by the modeling industry, but strives dispite it. I love the photo shoots and the naive girls who are like, “I will never do nudity, it’s against everything I stand for” but still manage to look like hoochies in garter belts and thigh-highs.
This season finds the girls on a cruise ship plotting along the Caribbean to discover if they have what it takes to ”be fiearce!” Most of them don’t look anything like models, and there are some in the pact that have major attitude issues (esp. Ebony, a chick from the South side of Chi-town), but all in all, I dont think this season is as diverse as last. The most annoying gal from Texas made the final cut, which makes me wonder if they keep people purely for ratings reason, or because they think they will succeed. Considering I haven’t seen any of the past ANTM in any Vogues lately, I am re-thinking this whole reality modeling career. But still, it is fun to watch these girls go from white trash to high fashion in a matter of a season. Plus Miss J and Mr. J are equally hilarious, with their eye rolls and major sexy leg struts down the catwalk. Meow! Can’t say I can decide a winner, although I have picked all 4 from the previous seasons, even though they were never hard to pick out. I just hope this franchise doesnt run out of ideas, cause it is a guilty pleasure I am never too tired to indulge.
GOSSIP GIRL
Following Tyra’s rant is Gossip Girl, from the creator of the OC (Trojan alum-love!) Josh Schwartz…it is definitly the OC on the East Coast. Booze, sex, money and minors seems to be the theme…even the two main characters consists of a blonde versus a brunette, although I must say Blake Lively is doing pretty good for herself since Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. There is girl slept with best friend’s boyfriend cat fights, cool/loser/kinda cute but not overly hot guy falling for blondie, best friend’s boyfriend secretly wanting blondie, but needs to marry brownie for his father’s buisness, and smug guy, with the perpetual chip on his golden shoulder, one too many hits of X shown on his face. That’s the character arc for you, right there. But can you blame the CW for producing such high sweetness crap? IT is the network that brought you One Tree Hill and the like. So as far as melodramas go, I guess this one is the new OC on the East Coast, just like Newton Beach is the new Laguna Beach, which was the new Real World, etc. etc. etc. And the vicious cycle continues. It’s a pity that the New York skyline is wasted on smug writing and mediocre performances, but something tells me this show will stay around, if only to entertain the ANTM crowds. Will I watch? Depends on if anything else is on Wednesday nights…but I do allow myself one mediocre overdramatic drama at least once a season (see Dawson’s Creek, One Tree Hill).
And so last Wednesday concluded with fun season premieres. I am looking forward to this week, and now that my tv set works again (thanks dad, for putting up with my screaming on the other line…the tv went blank, but I could hear audio…just in time for the Heroes season premiere!!!)…I look forward to this week of review. Join me next time for the Fall Season Round-up…giddyup!
